With threats like Colony Collapse Disorder, beekeepers need to stay vigilant to keep their bee’s thriving. According to Carol Wehr with Wehr Honey Farm, there isn’t much known about the phenomenon, so the only way of preventing it at the moment is by keeping the bees at their healthiest. She says one way to do that is by treating honey bees for mites using formic acid.
By reducing the amount of immune system weakening mites, they’re more likely to fight off disease.
